Selling online in Mexico: WooCommerce or Shopify?

They're the two most popular ecommerce platforms and both work well. The choice depends on how much control you want and how much time you can commit.

Shopify: turnkey

You pay a monthly fee and the platform handles servers, security and updates. You open fast with almost no maintenance. In return, advanced features come as paid monthly apps and you play by its rules.

WooCommerce: your own store

A free WordPress plugin. You choose hosting, design is completely open and there's no platform fee per sale. In return, someone has to handle updates, backups and performance.

Payments in Mexico

Mexican shoppers expect more than cards: SPEI bank transfers, cash payments at convenience stores and interest-free installments. Both platforms connect to gateways that support them. Compare fees and payout times.

Shipping

Both integrate with label platforms that quote multiple Mexican carriers. If you sell cross-border, review delivery options on both sides.

Invoicing

Mexican businesses often request an electronic tax invoice (CFDI). Check that a connector exists for your invoicing system; both platforms have options.

Our recommendation

  • Small catalog and you want to open now: Shopify.
  • Large catalog, SEO content or custom integrations: WooCommerce.
  • Already on WordPress: WooCommerce, so your presence isn't split in two.

What never changes: clear photos, complete descriptions, visible shipping policies and a checkout that finishes on a phone. That sells more than the platform.
